Bio

Born May 13, 1962, Karl started his musical career with guitar lessons at the age of six. At the age of 7, he became more interested in drumming and starting taking private lessons in 1969 at Hoffman Music Co. in downtown Spokane, Washington.

From late grammar school through junior high (Salk Junior High in Spokane), Karl also studied violin and played in the Spokane Youth Orchestra as well as other school orchestras and bands. By high school (Shadle Park in Spokane), he had honed his focus down to drumming and played in the school marching band as well as other vocal groups.

In his senior year in high school (1979/1980), Karl made his first studio album with his brother Lonny at Rainbow Records in Dallas, Texas produced by Elvis Presley backup and Imperials lead singer Terry Blackwood. It was there that he first started his on-going interest in recording and production.

During the 1980's and 1990's, he played in various bands including The Wrappers, One Accord, The Paradise Highway Band, The Lehnen-Dwyer Band, The Raves, Champagne Alley and Professor Balls. It was during this time that Karl started his own studio (Mission Control Studios).

Over the next ten years at the start of the 21st century, Karl continued to work with a variety of artists building the studio and the foundations of what would eventually become an independent record label, Mission Control Records. Today, he continues to work as an independent producer and musician while building Mission Control Studios/Records.

Karl has played, engineered and produced over 40 albums and appeared on national television programs including the Discovery Channel's "No Opportunity Wasted".  In 2013, he became a voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (aka the Grammy's).
